My Space!?
What is it about Myspace? I have been pondering over this question for a bit. A friend of mine says I should get one and now I am wondering if I should. I'm finding out that quite a few people have one and they are closet Myspacers.
I have not been a fan of Myspace in the past...too many banners and junk I guess. I am curious however about the whole network thing though. It's like an entire community. Of course David Karesh had a community too and we all know about that little mishap in Waco. And then there are the Lemmings, who thoughtlessly follow their leader to the death. And then there were those folks that tried to hop on the comet trail and ride off into the sunset. I guess what I'm trying to say is that a sense of community isn't always a good thing.
So...to Myspace or not to Myspace? That is the question...

My recommendation: hold out till they offer you money.
It has a certain 'start-up' novelty that you'll probably like, but within a few weeks that quickly wears off and all you use it for is to read the occasional comments people leave on your site. As far as "community" goes, that is a misnomer. There is no REAL community there. It's all virtual. So to say that it keeps people in community is bunk.
I have one. I won't deny it, but I realized about two weeks ago how pointless MySpace really is. Other than commenting, if you already have a blog, there's no point.
As for ads. If you use Firefox you can filter all ads and flash objects. Very nice to get rid of all the "intimate dating" ads that pop up.

OMG larry...that would just be social suicude! Seriously though, why? It's an ugly site, with annoying ads, intrusive music, and people who have no idea what they're doing. It's basically a collection of all the annoying, irresponsible internet users...stay away.

don't do it, man. (imagine this comment in a sort of cheech and chong accent in a smoke filled room) It's like...all the same people who cut you off in traffic are myspace freaks. They are all like..."Hey, I'm gonna change lanes whether you're there or not...And then I'm going to check out my friends list on myspace"..
Seriously, though...resist the dark side.
